| Marine Versions of Anemometers, Windvanes and Rotors |

In environments where instruments are likely to be significantly exposed to sea/salt water (corrosive) or sand/dust (abrasive) it is sometimes preferable that the "marine" versions of our instruments be used in order that best performance and reliability is obtained in service.
The "marine" (/WR) versions of the instruments have improved sealing and there are options for rotors and fins with longer/different "skirts" to reduce the likelihood of ingress of water or dust.
In general, the "marine" versions have the same catalogue/order numbers as the standard ones (and same specifications), but with a "/WR" suffix - the "/WR" suffix normally implies that the instrument is supplied with a "marine" version of the rotor/fin as appropriate.
For applications requiring "First Class" performance (wind assessment etc), "marine" /WR versions of anemometers are NOT recommended - the standard anemometer will produce more accurate results than the /WR versions (as the /WR versions have not been fully tested to determine their classification, and the optional close-fitting seals can degrade accuracy/sensitivity slightly).
The standard anemometer (without /WR option) has adequate protection against rain and spray for many applications - In many offshore wind assessment applications, the anemometers are often mounted sufficiently high above the sea surface (waves) that salt water ingress is not a serious problem, so the standard anemometer can often be used successfully without needing the /WR option.

The R302 is the "marine" version of the standard R30 rotor (used with A100 series anemometers) and the F202 is the "marine" version of the standard F20 fin (used with W200 series windvanes).
Marine versions of our A100R Anemometer and Self-Referencing Windvane (SRW1G) are commonly used on larger vessels or anchored/drifting buoys out at sea.
