Celebrating more than 50 years manufacturing & servicing High Quality Vector Instruments Anemometers and Windvanes at Windspeed Ltd
Anemometer Calibration

All anemometer rotors are individually tested in one of our factory wind-tunnels at a single windspeed (9m/s) by comparison to one of a set of reference rotors which are themselves traceable to international standards. The results of these tests correlate closely with 9m/s results when calibrated at an IEC/MEASNET wind tunnel facility. A factory-test certificate is included with each rotor. This is not however a "full" or "ISO 17025" anemometer calibration.

The reference rotors used for these factory tests are themselves periodically re-calibrated at reputable ISO17025 wind tunnels (such as those in the MEASNET group) accordingto IEC/MEASNET procedures.

Where a "full" wind tunnel calibration of a purchased anemometer/rotor pair is required, MEASNET and IEC calibrations are also available to order for customers requiring them (such as those with applications in the wind energy sector).

Note that few other anemometer manufacturers provide an individual rotor test certificate as standard with every anemometer.

More information:

Windvane Calibration:
Our windvanes do NOT include a calibration/test certificate of any kind as standard, however recent revisions of IEC 61400-12-1 and IEC 61400-50-1 now advise that windvanes used in wind-energy site/turbine assessment should also be individually calibrated in a wind tunnel - IEC calibrations can now also be ordered with our windvanes if required.

Selecting a Wind Tunnel and Calibration:
We consider that a low-turbulence wind tunnel with uniform flow and a test section (cross-section) of at least 60cm x 60cm (24in x 24in) is the minimum required for meaningful/accurate calibrations of our anemometers. The MEASNET/IEC calibrations we offer all use wind tunnels meeting/exceeding these requirements.

Please contact our sales office for calibration information on our anemometers (and/or for a copy of the independent summary report on the classification of our anemometers).
