Fitting and Removing W200 Series Windvane Fins (F20 series fins)
The fins (vane-arm assemblies) used with the W200 Series Windvanes are all fixed to the main part of the instrument using a patented gravity-sensitive fastener.

To assemble the fin to the windvane:
  • Hold the windvane body upright in your left hand with the spindle at the top. Remove the plastic spindle protector tube (where fitted) and turn the spindle so that you can see the (oval shaped) slot on the spindle (i.e. so that the slot is facing you). In the case of reed-switch instruments (W200 Porton and W200G Encoder windvanes) tilting the body will cause the spindle to turn on it's own - simple turn and tilt the instrument body instead of turning the spindle directly.
  • Now pick up the fin (vane-arm) in your right hand with the counter-balance (weighted) end in the palm of your hand, holding the hub (middle part) in your fingers.
  • Slide the fin onto the windvane spindle, release your hold on the fin, then press the hub (middle part of the fin assembly) down lightly to activate the gravity catch (approx 2KgF is required).
  • Check that the fin is securely located (press the hub again if not).

  • Removing the fin from the windvane:
  • Remove the windvane from any mounting-arm to which it may be fixed.
  • Hold the windvane upside-down and press the hub (central part of the fin) upwards lightly (approx 2Kgf force required) and the gravity catch should release and the fin will then slide off.

  • Note: It is advisable that fitting and removal of the fin should be tried out before installing the windvane to a mast.

Warning: If a windvane is to be left without a fin fitted for any reason (e.g. for shipping, or if left on a mast) the spindle should be protected using the slide-on plastic protection tube provided with each windvane.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: The design of the catch/locking-mechanism on these fins (vane-arm assemblies) is protected by a number of Patents, including GB2521914B, US9404935, EP2921722.
